There once was a lady goat herder ....

Giuseppe's poking around the countryside for so many years has led to many culinary discoveries. One of our favorite is an 82 year old sheperdess in Garfagnana. Her herd consists of 50 goats that she still tends to the old fashioned way. We witnessed this first hand last summer. It's a no-nonsense approach to parenting : love and discipline. How amazing that this beautiful woman has spent her life on the alpine like slopes crafting one of the best Pecorino cheeses to be found. But you will not find it in any shop. We often take the afternoon to travel into the mountains in hopes that there are still a few wheels remaining on the wooden board in her barn! If you are lucky, we may have some on the table when you visit.

Here she is showing Toby who's boss.
